Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault - What Your Hours Unlock, and Whether Game Pass Covers It
Updated September 25, 2026. Every count, date and platform claim below was read that day from the developer's and publisher's own posts and store pages, listed at the end. No retailer price, star rating or aggregate review score is used as evidence anywhere in this article.
The record this game left behind while it was still unfinished
Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault reached version 1.0 on 2 September 2026, arriving on Windows PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 the same day. It had already been on sale for nine and a half months by then. Early Access opened on 19 November 2025, moved back from an originally announced 23 October because, in the studio's words at the time, "the month has filled up with so many other great releases."
That Early Access run is the useful part. Digital Sun and 11 bit studios posted dated notes for every content drop across those nine months, which means this game's progression is documented in public in a way most launches never are. Everything below is built on those posts and on the four official store listings. Nothing here is built on how long the game supposedly takes, because that figure has never been published by anyone official.
The loop, in the developer's own two halves
The store description frames it as a double life: "Live the double life of a resourceful merchant and fearless adventurer." Will is stranded in the village of Tresna without money, so he reopens a shop and funds it by raiding interdimensional dungeons. Night side: explore, fight, and "carefully arrange your loot to unlock unique item synergies," with the developers stating plainly that "managing your backpack is key to financial success." Day side: "Customize your shop, set your prices, and read your customers to strike the perfect deal."
The title object is a progression gate rather than a place. The Endless Vault is described as "a mysterious ancient artifact that pushes your skills to the limit," whose "ever-growing challenges" pay out town upgrades and better rewards, with the campaign goal being to take Tresna back from Moloch, "an interdimensional collector." It is single-player only. That is not an inference: the Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo listings each say so, and no official post has ever mentioned co-op.
A dated ledger of what arrived when
| Date | Release | What the post says it added |
|---|---|---|
| 19 Nov 2025 | Early Access opens (PC) | Three biomes, "each with two distinct floors" (Kalina, Prison, Aeolia); "over 150 relics"; "four main weapons"; "nearly 100 decorations"; "almost 100 perks"; "a major portion of the story" |
| 11 Mar 2026 | Greed and Glory | Blo-Blitz dual-gun weapon; Nimbus Regalia armour; Hex perk path; The Greed Colosseum; Upper Shelves and Storefront customisation; vendor Eris to upgrade level 4 and K33P3R to level 3; a 20-room combat set |
| 20 May 2026 | Blob-Life | Bloblet companions plus a currency earned only through special tasks; Shop Aromas; four weapon aspects; Blo-Buddy gadget; Poison perk path; Boss Rush for each dimension; Endless Vault VI; PetSeller and LandLady vendors; Haggle Customers |
| 2 Sep 2026 | 1.0 | The story's ending; Infinite Endless Vault postgame; Endless Vault VII; four Endless weapon aspects; Machine Gun gadget; Endless Void armour; Shop Level 5; Bomb perk path; Hardcore Mode |
| 10 Sep 2026 | 1.0 Hotfix 1 | DirectX 11/12 selection option; quest-marker, crash, enemy, weapon and dungeon fixes; console improvements promised but not dated |
Read down that third column and one thing stands out: across nine months of updates, not one post announces a new biome. The Greed Colosseum is described as a location and an alternative path, not a fourth dimension. So the only official biome count for this game remains the Early Access one, and it has three entries.
The gate ladder, since the clock is not published
Because no hour figures exist, the honest way to answer "what do I get for my time" is to follow the thresholds the developers numbered themselves, and to note what is already on repeat by the time you reach each one.
| Documented gate | What it opens | What is already repeating |
|---|---|---|
| First shop days in Tresna | Pricing, customer reactions, sales perks | Kalina's two floors; backpack sorting on the way out |
| Endless Vault Challenge 2 | The Hex perk path, which the update post ties explicitly to this threshold | Two-floor runs; relic pricing decisions |
| The Greed Colosseum | An escalating-difficulty alternative route | The relic economy, now with a penalty: fail and relics "have their quality halved" |
| Endless Vault V and VI | Further challenges and the town upgrades they pay for | Boss patterns, one set per dimension |
| Vendor tiers (Eris 4, K33per 4, Rival 4) | Deeper upgrades; PetSeller and LandLady | The sell-and-reinvest cycle that funds all of it |
| Shop Level 5 (1.0) | One extra Bloblet slot, one extra cosmetic placement slot | Bloblet task chains; Aroma rotation |
| Endless Vault VII and the Infinite Endless Vault | A postgame whose thresholds keep climbing | The entire loop, and by design rather than by accident |
| Hardcore Mode (1.0) | No new content; one changed rule | Everything, from the first shop day, if you die |
The pattern is worth naming. Four of the eight gates above hand back a modifier or a slot rather than a new place to go. If new environments are what keeps you playing, this design will run short of them before it runs short of numbers to climb.
The shop half is where players actually stall
Combat gets the trailers, but the documented systems cluster on the counter. Prices are yours to set on every item, "from battered scrap to priceless relics." Aromas appear through a machine that drops one of three random options after you sell relics cheaply, then get applied to showcases for passive effects. Haggle Customers arrived in May. Upper Shelves and Storefront layouts arrived in March. Bloblets raise relic value and customer tips, and they are earned through tasks rather than bought outright.
The trade-off nobody has to spell out once you list it that way: the dungeon half is a twenty-minute action game and the shop half is a spreadsheet with a cash register attached. Both are compulsory. If the second one sounds like admin rather than a game, no amount of content in the first will fix that, and nine months of updates made the shop deeper, not lighter.
Three counts the publisher prints, and seven it does not
Printed and checkable: 56 Steam achievements; ten interface languages with English as the only full-audio track; 6 GB of storage on PC and 11 GB on Switch 2.
Not published anywhere official, and not invented here: campaign length in hours; any 1.0 total for biomes or floors; recipe or crafting-tier counts; the number of Bloblets; PS5 and Xbox install sizes; PS5 and Switch 2 resolution or frame-rate targets; and New Game Plus, which no official post mentions at all. The postgame that does exist is the Infinite Endless Vault plus Hardcore Mode.
Sales are absent too, and that absence is loud. In its own H1 2026 directors' report, 11 bit studios names units for other titles in the same document — Frostpunk 2 "has already sold more than 1 million copies," The Alters reached "656 thousand units" — while giving no unit figure for Moonlighter 2. The same filings disclose roughly PLN 16 million of capitalised development cost for the game and PLN 1,692,426 of Early Access revenue in the first quarter of 2026. A publisher that prints two unit counts and withholds a third is making a choice, and a buyer is entitled to read it as one.
Game Pass, in the exact words on the pages
At the Early Access launch the position was unambiguous. The Xbox Game Pass post of 18 November 2025 lists "Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault (Game Preview) (PC) - November 19" under Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass, with no console or cloud label. Today the Xbox store page states the game is "Included with Game Pass Premium" and shows it as cloud playable, and the publisher's H1 2026 report refers to "significant payments for making the title available through Game Pass from the release date."
One honest caveat: no Xbox post announcing the 2 September console addition could be retrieved while checking this, so the day-one-at-1.0 position rests on the store page and the publisher's own report rather than on a Game Pass wave announcement. Tier names and inclusion windows change without notice, so the store page on the day you decide is the only version that binds.
One platform publishes a frame target; three do not
The Xbox listing carries the fullest capability set: 4K Ultra HD, "60 fps+", variable refresh rate, Optimized for Xbox Series X|S, handheld optimized, Play Anywhere, cloud saves and six accessibility features. The PlayStation 5 page commits to DualSense vibration, cloud streaming and offline play, and states no resolution or frame target. The Switch 2 page confirms TV, tabletop and handheld play with cloud saves at 11 GB, and also states no target. On PC the game has been Steam Deck Verified since 16 January 2026, and the 10 September hotfix added a DirectX 11/12 selector after a May performance note recommending DirectX 12.
The demo has been permanent since June 2025
A free demo launched at Steam Next Fest on 9 June 2025 and was kept afterwards rather than withdrawn; it now exists on all four platforms. Given that campaign length is unpublished and that the shop half is the part most likely to decide whether you finish the game, the demo settles the question no write-up can: whether pricing relics and sorting a backpack is something you enjoy doing for the fifth time.
Tip: The Switch 2 build needs 11 GB, and that console stores add-on downloads on a microSD Express card rather than ordinary microSD media, so check which type you own before download day. (These are Amazon Associate links - we may earn a small commission on qualifying purchases.)
Weighing only what is documented
Set against the published record rather than against impressions, the case for installing now is strongest for a subscriber: the inclusion is stated on the store page, the story has an ending as of 1.0, and the postgame thresholds are numbered up to VII with an infinite mode past that. The case for waiting is also on the record, and it is specific — three biomes and no announced fourth, a console improvement pass promised on 10 September without a date, and a publisher that has chosen not to print a unit number for this title while printing them for others. If a fourth environment matters more to you than more numbers to climb, the sensible move is to finish the demo first and watch the next patch note for the word biome.
